Running bit
Go Spartans
Jason's Corvallis High School allegiance — and the 'Go Spartans!' rally cry that gets shouted across the show.
The Spartans are Corvallis High School — “the good guys downtown” — and Jason is a self-described proud Spartan. Pushing 37–38 years in Corvallis, he coaches the girls’ basketball team, sent his kids through CHS, and works “Go Spartans!” into the show at every opportunity. It’s become a call-and- response: guests and Kathy echo it back (“Go Spartans.” “Go Spartans.” “Go Spartans.”).
The bit has deep roots. Guest Bryan Painter spent 36 years as the head athletic trainer on the CHS sidelines — a mentor to generations of Spartans. And the rivalry gets its due, too: per Jason, “there’s nobody from North Corvallis listening to the podcast.” (Not to be confused with Kathy’s Michigan State Spartan shout-outs, which always circle back to Notre Dame.)
